How far is Pension Folktale from the ski lift?
The pension is located with ski-in/ski-out access to Hakuba Norikura ski field, which links to Cortina Hakuba ski field, and just 1 minute away from the lifts. Tsugaike is just a few minutes away.
Can I rent snowboard and ski gear in the area?
Yes, there are a number of different rental shops within easy walking distance of the pension.
What type of food is offered?
Meals change on a daily basis and vary between Western and Japanese. Mrs Suzuki is a wonderful cook and her meals are often a highlight for those staying at Pension Folktale. She uses a lot of locally grown produce and fresh ingredients in her cooking and the serving sizes are hearty to fill you up after a full day on the slopes.
Are there any hot spring baths (Onsen) in the area?
Yes, there is are two local onsen with real natural onsen mineral water only minutes walk from the Pension Folktale.
Can I access backcountry tours from the Norikura area?
Yes! Mr Suzuki can take you on half or full day backcountry tours to discover hidden power snow.
How can I get from the train or bus station to the pension?
For a small fee, we can arrange pick-up from Minami-Otari station, Hakuba station, and Hakuba bus terminal. Alternatively, taxi or local bus are also easy options.
Is it worth visiting Otari and Hakuba outside of the snow season?
Absolutely it is! There is so much to see and do around here. The nature is world class. It's a great place for all kinds of activities or to simply relax at any time of year. Please come and see a completely different and wonderful side to Japan than the big cities of Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto.
